Hi, I'm Randye

MY JOURNEY HERE

My name is Randye Dugan, and I’m your Democratic candidate to be the next State Representative for House District 24. I’ll admit, I’m not your typical candidate. I haven’t spent my life dreaming of being a candidate or a politician.I’m a public school educator and small business owner along with my husband. So how did I end up here? Well, to put it simply, I’m curious.

You see, I’ve always been curious, even as a child. I was fortunate enough to have two loving parents who stoked this curiosity in me at an early age. I was curious about how things worked, how to solve big problems, really just about anything, I wanted to understand the how and why. Eventually this curiosity led me to earn my Bachelors degree in Mathematic and Physics from a small school in New York, Wagner College, my Masters from NYU and my Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University.

For the past twenty years, I’ve been fortunate enough to get to stoke that curiosity in the next generation as a public school educator, with 9 of those years being spent here in the GA public school systems. I love to help kids look at the world in new ways and explore their own curiosity. Next to being a mother, teaching is the most rewarding job I could ever imagine.

All of this is why recent choices made under the Gold Dome have left me even more curious. I’ve sat here at my home in Forsyth and watched while elected representatives like Rep. Carter Barrett makes choices around subjects like public funding of education, women’s bodily autonomy, Medicare Expansion, and so many other topics that just leave me . . . well, curious.

The state should not be in the position to choose what decisions a woman makes at one of the most vulnerable points in her life. We shouldn’t be taking money out of public school systems to give away through private school vouchers (especially when we don’t have any failing schools in Forsyth).

Apparently, though, Rep. Barrett doesn’t have much curiosity about those topics, which is why he’s voted in favor of all of these things. That’s why in March, I got curious about who might challenge him and bring back a voice of reason and thoughtfulness to Southwest Forsyth. The answer at the time was “No One,” and it led me to one final question: “Well, why not me?”

I’m running to be your next Representative, because our district deserves someone who is going to be curious. Someone who is going to ask questions, do the research, and not just rubber stamp an agenda handed down by lobbyists and corporate donors. I’m running to be your next Representative because Southwest Forsyth deserves someone who will listen and ask questions for their constituents, and not just make decisions in a vacuum based on what the Speaker tells them to do.

I look forward to getting to know the people of the district over the coming months on the campaign trail. If you have any questions for me, just ask! I love curiosity :)
